Green Wave teams off to a fast start
The Green Wave varsity basketball teams are both off to a 3-0 start.
Senior point guard Tinara Brown led the Lady Green Wave basketball team to victory Friday. Brown scored a game-high 15 points as Summerville earned a 57-25 victory over Berkeley County. Zuri Green chipped in 10 points and Ashley Green eight as the Lady Green Wave earned its first road victory of the season.
“We played with a lot of intensity, especially on the defensive end,” Summerville coach Matt Legare said. “It was a good win because everyone contributed. We got a little banged up and are not at a full roster right now anyway, so it was a good sign to see the starters dial up their intensity and the reserves follow suit.”
JaKaylah Ravenell, Heather Chapman, Rodnesha Capers, Chelsi Anderson, Michelle Padgett and D’Alexis Aldgridge also got in on the scoring for Summerville.
Priscilla Washington led the Lady Stags (0-1) with six points and Donni Robinson added five points for Berkeley.
Summerville jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first period and entered the half with a 22-point lead. The Lady Green Wave then put the game away with 19 points in the third period.
On Tuesday, Zuri Green led the Summerville girls past Military Magnet. She scored a game-high 18 points as Summerville rolled to a 73-28 win over the Class A team.
Ashley Green added 14 points for Summerville while Brown contributed 12. Gabrielle Stewart, Ravenell, Capers, Anderson and Padgett also scored for the Wave.
The Summerville boys earned a 47-38 win over Military Magnet. John Jenkins led the Green Wave shooters with 14 points and senior Brandon Wilkerson chipped in 12. Timmy Singleton, Chris McKinnon, Tyler Palmer, Isaiah Kinloch and Christian Kalacanic also scored for Summerville.
Magnet outscored the Wave in the first and the third periods, but Summerville finished both halves strong to secure the victory.
The Summerville teams host a rematch with Berkeley on Dec. 7. Tipoff for the girls’ game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
