River Oaks Middle School welcomed volunteers from Alcoa Corporation who landscaped and improved the courtyard area. These improvements will provide shaded seating areas, a walking track, and a volleyball court for student use.
On Friday, September 6, 21 people from the Charleston AF Base came to Newington Elementary to help weed, paint, put sand on the Kindergarten playground, help get the garden ready to plant, and put together bleachers during an early TUW Day of Caring.
KES had Arbor Gen to help beautify the beds surrounding the 2nd grade learning cottages. There were 15 volunteers at the Trident United way Day of Caring. Also, the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command helped build an arbor last Friday. It also helped to assemble Safety Bags for each classroom including flashlights, Band-Aids, weather info and other safety items. There were 40 volunteers helping.
A group of young Naval enlistees marked off the future Oakbrook Middle School garden, spread mulch and compost and tilled the area under the guidance of OMS Master Gardener Debbie Runyon and Brandon Pitcher on September 6.
