Here Comes Santa
It’s that time again for the Annual Summerville Christmas Parade. It will be held on Sunday, December 9, at 2 pm. This year’s theme, “Santa’s Summerville Workshop”, is sure to be a winner with folks of all ages.
Locals arrive hours ahead of time to secure their favorite viewing spots and allow plenty of time to visit with friends and neighbors. Street vendors with balloons and cotton candy add to the festive atmosphere. In years past, the Christmas Parade has attracted more than 3,000 participants and 10,000 spectators.
Some of the parade entries this year will be Ms. Ford’s awesome 1st grade class from Sangaree Elementary School, Summerville Montessori School of the Arts, Summerville Little League and Cub Scout Packs 435 and 458, all showing off their homemade floats.
Parade entries will be judged on adherence to the theme, originality and creativity. “It is will be exciting to see what the businesses and groups come up with to fit the theme this year”, says Carolyn Wooten, Executive Director of Summerville DREAM.
There are lots of musical entrants to usher the parade through town this year says. The Summerville Community Orchestra will be joined by Fort Dorchester High School Band, the United States Naval Sea Cadets Marching Unit and radio station vans playing music. Clear Channel Media’s float will feature Eddie Bush singing Christmas Carols and Santa will be making his grand entrance escorted by the the Summerville Fire Department.
This year’s parade is sponsored by the Summerville Fire Department and Summerville DREAM. The parade will run down Main Street from North 4th Street to the Town Hall where the route takes a right and proceeds down West Richardson Avenue to South Hickory Street. There is plenty of room for great viewing.
